Day 118 March 7th 2007, What New Zealands Famous For - Queenstown to Mt Cook

If I was to list what I think New Zealand is best know for I would say, Kiwi's, Rugby, Lamb and of course Bungy Jumping. It wouldn't be right to leave New Zealand without seeing a Kiwi and we managed to see a few in some dark houses (they're nocturnal) at a Wildlife Park in Queenstown. It would be right to leave without doing a Bungy Jump but as I had given it the big I am on several occasions there was no way I could come away without having done a jump.

Just outside Queenstown is the original site set up by the founder of Bungy Jumping AJ Hackett. For all those out there thinking of doing this here is my advice on getting through it.

  1. Walk up slap money on counter and ensure your the first to jump on the day or session
  2. Proceed to platform
  3. Don't ask any questions you wont get any reassuring answers
  4. Don't look down that wont help
  5. Don't look at the crowd as that wont help either
  6. Whilst standing on platform 120ft above river think what a wimp you will look if you don't jump
  7. Don't hang about jump on the 1 of 5-4-3-2-1
  8. Buy DVD of jump and bore anyone who will listen or watch senseless with constant replays of it

So here it is the action starts about 50 secs into the video

If you would like to see Shelley's version and hear her commentary here's the video, you will also understand why I needed to buy the official version

I have heard bungy jumping described as a life changing experience, I would describe it as a time to change your trousers experience. There is a slightly higher jump in Cairns where we will be in a few weeks so stay tuned for second jump ;-)

Continuing on our way we headed towards Mt Cook with Shelley refusing to let me drive until I had calmed down.

Highlights: Bungy yeah

Thought you would do one, that's my boy. A bit of a drastic way to get your hair washed!
