Day 202 May 30th 2007, Raining Cats and Dogs - Ho Chi Minh City

On leaving Japan we went on a panic shopping spree for English books, in fear that we wouldn't be able to get anything to read for the next month. We needn't have worried. Every best seller is for sale by street vendors here, all photocopies of course. Our hotel at $20 a night is quite nice, clean with air conditioning and has a receptionist that can book anything in seconds. Before long our flight to Hanoi was booked and our laundry done.

The view from our room (Above) isn't the most scenic. The view also revels where much of the food in the nicely fronted restaurants is cooked. Our most used phrase is now "No Thank You" It gets to the point of ridiculous pretty easily, why do I need a moped when I'm walking into a restaurant.

Imagine Alton Towers built 20 years ago and since then not a penny spent on maintenance. Thats the Dam Sen Park, Ho Chi Minh Citys amusement park. The gardens with their dragons are quite nice, watch out of the very large rats which aren't made of leaves.

As the humidity rose into the evening, the clouds grew darker and before long the sky opened. The streets and some of the locals got a much needed wash, while the humidity dropped a little. Whilst on the topic if raining cats and dogs, its worth mentioning that there are over 1km of restaurants serving dog. By this I assume the dogs aren't the customers.
