Day 49 December 28th 2006, ooh nice place - Torres del Paine

Pronounced Pi-naie, Torres del Paine is a large national park in Chile consisting of 100kms of trails, set amongst stunning mountain ranges, glacier, lakes and valley´s. The first accent of the mountain (Torres del Paine) that give the park its name was by Chris Bonnington in 1963. There are two popular treks in the park, the circuit and the "W" we were going to be walking some of the "W"

We arrived at the park by bus shortly after lunch, given that up until this trip I would only venture onto a bus as a last resort, believing that they were the form of transport only for the unemployed, students and vegetarian tree huggers. I am getting quite used to the frequent 4 hour trip between towns and almost enjoy them, taking the chance to catch up on some reading.

After leaving our luggage in our dormitory we set off for a quick 4 hour warm up hike, staying in a dormitory was a new experience and luckily we only had one other person in our room, this however did not stop the snoring from the room next door which at one point was causing the wall to shake. I can only conclude from the accent of their snoring that they were probably French.

Highlights: The stunning scenery of the park.
