The bus journey involved the usual queuing, upon arriving in Ushuaia we knew instantly that we were back in Argentina as there was a political demonstration going on outside the local government building.
Our hotel is called Posada del fin del Mundo, fin del Mundo being the end of the world. As with many claims made here in Argentina this is not quite true, Port Williams in Chile on the other side of the Beagle channel is further south, but then the argument of what constitutes a town come into play.
Then there is Antarctica with both Argentina http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argentine_Antarctica and Chile http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antártica_Chilena_Province claiming ownership of almost the the same slice of it. Now it gets really interesting us Brits also view this part of Antarctica as our own http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Antarctic_Territory. I'm sure it must be British.
Being quite close to the Falklands there are frequent references to the Islands being Argentine, memorials, car stickers and even the tourist information. I have decided it´s probably best not to point out the obvious.
Being summer here the sun light is very bright and last for over 20 hours a day, it is bitterly cold when the wind blows though. This is summer so I wouldn't like to be here in the winter although I have counted 3 strip joints so far. None of these are featured in the guide books, I consider it my duty to visit each one and send in a review for future editions.
Highlights: Being at the end of the World (almost)
