Day 173 May 1st 2007, Something Fishy Going On - Tokyo

With one of the largest fishing fleets in the world, responsible for around 15% of the worlds total catch you find Seafood on the menu everywhere. One of the attractions in Tokyo is where all this seafood meets the restaurants and retailers, the Tsukiji Fish Market. With 2,000 metric tons of seafood passing through here each day this is not a place for the feint hearted. All the action is between 5am and 8am, when we arrived at about 6:30am it was chaos. After dodging electric cards and men with wheelbarrows laden with fish we actually made it into the market.

The market is one of the best places to enjoy sushi so at 8:30am we were eating raw fish freshly prepared in front of us, when I say fresh note the fish tank in the middle of the picture. A couple of Starbucks later (including one at the first ever Starbucks opened in Japan 10 years ago) we had recovered enough to visit the Sony Tower. I am now convinced more than ever that I need the largest plasma money can buy to watch movie trailers on over and over again.

Highlights: Seafood then eat food at the fish market
